About Us
Loren Mrnak is a fourth generation North Dakotan raised on a registered Hereford ranch in Bowman. At the age of five he received his first registered heifer and that was the start of his cow herd. He worked with his family through high school and summers while attending Western Dakota VoTech where he received a degree in Farm-Ranch management.
In 1986, he accepted a position with one of the top Hereford ranches in the nation, Lone Star Hereford Ranch, in Henrietta, Texas. He worked and was mentored by Doug Bennett. His first responsibility was to manage the show barn preparing both the show and sale cattle. Later he became involved in the embryo transplant program as well as marketing.
In 1990, he moved to Carson City, Nevada to manage John Ascuaga's Jacks Valley Ranch. In 1993, he purchased 35 head of cattle from Oregon Hereford Ranch in Hermiston to expand his herd. The base of the herd originated in North Dakota and expanded with the purchase from Oregon but the goal has always remained the same: raise sound functional cows with great udders, loads of milk and rib shape that turns grass into pounds. "Culling" is a strong management tool as we do not retain animals that are not efficient and do not reproduce.
Loren has leased ranches in Nevada and California but considers the Carson Valley in Northern Nevada home. As the herd has grown, so has Loren and his wife, Terrie's family. They have two sons who have married, along with three grandchildren. Together they strive to develop one of the top cow herds in the country. |
